#11 – Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition – Industry Leader Spotlight

Thank you, HFSC!
When it comes to industry knowledge tailored perfectly for the residential fire sprinkler market, nobody does it better than the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC – homefiresprinkler.org). Founded in 1996, this US-based non-profit organization’s mission is to educate the public, the fire service, and the construction industry on fire danger in modern construction and the ultimate life-safety tool: fire sprinklers.
HFSC prides itself on being the number one resource for accurate, non-commercial information and materials for consumers and professionals. To that end, they’ve compiled a library of resources for consumers, fire service professionals, home builders, and more.
Consumers
HFSC kicks off their consumer outreach website with a sobering statistic: 8 of 10 fire deaths occur in the home. While that stat certainly causes goosebumps, they follow it up directly with a plethora of resources designed to mitigate that risk by explaining the life-saving benefits of fire sprinklers. These include:

There is many more, but rather than list them I encourage you to go and look at their site. You can do so by clicking here.

In our opinion, the site does a great job of starting the conversation from wherever a consumer is having trouble understanding the need for fire sprinklers. They also do a great job of dispelling myths about fire sprinklers.
Fire Service
For fire service professionals (the brave men and women who risk their lives to fight our fires), HFSC offers another library full of resources to help them teach their community about the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinklers. These include additional educational resources, a compilation of news from around the industry, and the Built for Life® Fire Department Program. From their site:
“The Built for Life® Fire Department program encourages and recognizes all United States fire departments that make home fire sprinkler education a focus of their community outreach.”
The program is free and as a member fire service professionals have access to the BFLFD Community, a private social network connecting firefighters nationwide to share ideas and stories. You can sign up for it here.
Home Builders
HFSC also provides resources for home builders. These companies and individuals are often the first point of contact for a consumer during the home building process and therefore can be the most influential advocates for fire sprinklers. Like all their sections they provide documentation, videos, and other resources that help explain fire sprinklers in a simple, straight-forward fashion.
One resource that is especially powerful is the timeline of a home fire. All HFSC videos are free to watch on their YouTube channel.
In addition to consumers, fire service professionals, and home builders, HFSC offers resources for other home-related industries including real estate agents, insurance agents, and more.
Overall, HFSC is a trailblazer in the education and advocacy segment of the fire sprinkler industry. They leverage the power of social media to spread their message – including pages on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, in addition to their fantastic website.
We applaud them for their hard work, diligence, and creativity. They are truly a leader in the fire sprinkler industry. Thank you, HFSC!
