Model XWU Water Shield for Viking XT1 Upright Fire Sprinklers (1/2″ & 3/4″ NPT)
Convert a 1/2″ or 3/4″ NPT Viking XT1 upright fire sprinkler to a rack-storage sprinkler with Viking’s Model XWU water shield. This water shield has a 3-3/8″ diameter to protect the sprinkler’s heat-sensitive parts against water discharge from nearby sprinklers.
Viking’s 22937 fire sprinkler water shield fits upright XT1 heads with 1/2″ & 3/4″ NPT thread connections. The Model XWU protects against overspray in:
- In-rack sprinkler systems
- Sprinklers installed beneath a grating
- Pilot sprinklers for deluge systems
Is this the right water shield for me?
Don’t use this product with pendent XT1 models, which require a 1/2″ NPT Model F-1 water shield or a 3/4″ NPT Model F-1 water shield. Viking’s Model XWU water shield is compatible with the following upright XT1 sprinklers:
- VK1001
- VK2001
- VK2002
- VK3001
- VK3501
- VK3502
Why use a fire sprinkler water shield?
Fire sprinklers sense heat, and each sprinkler has a specific activation temperature. But in warehouses and other locations where materials are stored on shelves or racks, sprinklers are often placed closely together. Without water shields, the cooling spray of one sprinkler may prevent the timely activation of other sprinklers nearby.
Viking’s Model XWU water shield sits at the base of an XT1 upright fire sprinkler. These shields protect against overspray from below while leaving open space for the sprinkler to discharge.
