GemLock Grooved Mechanical Tee

This Grooved Mechanical Tee features a 2 in. run size by a 1-1/2 in. grooved outlet to be used in grooved pipe systems, including specifically fire sprinkler piping systems, to attach a new line of pipe to an existing one, allowing for proper water flow and fast installation. This mechanical tee is available in the following sizes:

Mechanical Branchlet provides a direct branch connection at any location along the pipe run without welding. A hole cut along the center line of pipe will receive the hole locator collar to secure the outlet. A pressure responsive EPDM gasket molded to suit the run pipe insures leak tight joints. Cross type connections can be made utilizing upper housings only. Refer to the datasheet for Hole Diameter.

GemLock Grooved Mechanical Tees are made of durable, high-strength ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536, with every lot metallurgically tested for compliance. Pressure Ratings of GemLock Grooved Mechanical Tees are tested to a maximum operating pressure of 300 PSI*.

*Maximum pressure includes surges and maximum end loads from all internal and external forces, to which a joint could be subject under normal working conditions. This rating provides a nominal safety factor of 1.5 times working pressure based on standard weight steel pipe. Maximum working pressure may be subjected to a one-time field test of 1.5 times the figures indicated.

GemLock Grooved Mechanical Tee Listings, Approvals, and Other Information

Each Grooved Mechanical Tee is made by GemLock, a New York-based manufacturer of fire sprinkler grooved ductile iron pipe fittings, HVAC, plumbing and grooved tubing. All GemLock grooved piping system fittings are UL Listed and FM Approved. Refer to installations and groove specifications when assembling any grooved product.

The gasket included with this product is constructed of specially compounded rubber polymers with low compressions set properties. The sealing efficiency of gaskets is such that the gasket forms an initial seal as it is stretched over the pipe ends. As the housing segments are installed, the gasket seals to create a leak-tight joint. The seal becomes even stronger from internal downward pressure on the lips of the gasket. The gasket seals under vacuum conditions up to 10inHg (-0.35 Bar). Gaskets are pre-lubricated at a minimum but should be lubed more for ease of assembly and optimal performance. All bolts and nuts used in GemLock fittings are either oval neck track bolts constructed of Carbon Steel conforming to ASTM A183 with minimum tensile strength of 110,00 PSI or square neck carriage bolts made of Steel with Zinc Coating (Galvanized) conforming to ASTM A446 with 120,000 PSI minimum tensile strength.  Nuts are made of Carbon Steel conforming to ASTM A194.

All GemLock Ductile Iron mechanical grooved tees conform to ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12. Allowable pipe end separation is for cut groove pipe for roll groove; figures will be one-half of the values listed at time of initial pressurization.
