The primary differences between flat and domed sprinkler cover plates lie in their shape and how they accommodate sprinkler head placement. Flat cover plates are flush with the ceiling or wall, providing a clean, smooth look. Domed cover plates, on the other hand, have a protruding, curved shape that allows for more adjustment in sprinkler position relative to the surface.
Concealed sprinklers require cover plates to hide and protect the sprinkler head until activation. The plate shields the sprinkler from dirt, accidental damage, and tampering while maintaining a clean ceiling or wall appearance. In a fire, the cover plate releases at an equal or lower temperature than the sprinkler’s activation temperature, causing it to fall away first and allow the sprinkler to subsequently activate.
