MECH™ XZ81X Grooved OS&Y Valve
The MECH™ OS&Y Valve is a grooved outside screw and yoke (OS&Y) gate valve intended for fire sprinkler system service where reliable system control and clear valve-position indication are required. OS&Y valves are commonly used as control valves in fire protection piping because the rising stem provides an immediate visual confirmation of valve status: when the valve is open, the stem is extended; when the valve is closed, the stem is lowered. This simple mechanical indication supports routine inspection and maintenance practices by making it easier to verify that a control valve is in the correct operating position without relying only on handle position or tags. As a gate-style valve, it is intended for full open or full closed service to provide positive shutoff when closed while minimizing restriction when open, supporting isolation for maintenance, testing, repairs, or emergency control.
The XZ81X series is manufactured with an ASTM A536, 65-45-12 Ductile Iron body to provide strength and durability for demanding water service conditions, and it is supplied with a high-visibility Red finish to support identification in riser assemblies, mechanical rooms, and valve stations. This valve uses a Grooved connection type, supporting common grooved-coupling piping layouts used throughout fire protection installations where speed of assembly and standardized coupling practices are desired. It is rated for a maximum working water pressure of 300 PSI and is intended to operate within a rated working temperature range of 32F to 176F (0C to 80C), aligning with typical above-freezing fire protection water supply conditions. These ratings support consistent specification for many wet-pipe and related water-based fire protection applications where the valve must remain ready for service over long periods and then operate reliably when needed.
The XZ81X OS&Y valve family maintains consistent, specification-friendly attributes across available configurations—ductile iron construction, a Red exterior finish, grooved ends, and the listed pressure and temperature ratings—supporting consistent documentation across a range of fire protection system layouts. This valve is UL Listed and FM Approved.
