This Viking™ Institutional Pendent Fire Sprinkler is a extended coverage, flush pendent sprinkler, activating at 165F (68C) with a 5.6 K-Factor, and is rated for Light hazard occupancies. Each pendent head features heat-sensitive fusible link assembly, standard 1/2 in. NPT threads, and a brass frame with copper deflector.
This is a quick response, extended coverage, institutional sprinkler with a maximum working water pressure of 175 PSI. The VK650 Institutional Sprinkler features a tamper-resistant design, making it a safe and effective choice for use with concealed piping in various institutional mental health occupancies, correctional facilities, or other settings where flush, tamper-resistant sprinklers may be required.
Using a heat-activated fusible link assembly, this automatic fire sprinkler opens when ambient temperatures reach the sprinkler's listed activation temperature, drenching the area surrounding a fire to keep it in its place of origin. The VK650 is installed flush using one of Viking™’s 3 in. or 4 in. escutcheon plates, leaving exposed only a small portion of the fusible link assembly to ensure the timely activation of the fire sprinkler. When installed properly, this VK650 fire sprinkler head maintains listings and approvals from cULus (Category VKKW). Refer to the datasheet for listings and approvals in specific temperatures and/or applications.
The Viking™ Institutional Pendent Sprinkler VK650 is designed for NFPA 13. Apply the listed areas of coverage and minimum water supply requirements as shown in the Approval Chart of the datasheet. This flush pendent sprinkler head has a maximum working pressure of 175 PSI (12.1 BAR) and connects to fixed fire protection systems (wet, dry, deluge, or pre-action systems).
Viking™ Institutional (VK650) QR Pendent Sprinkler Installation and Other Information
During installation be aware that over tightening will cause permanent damage to the 1/2 in. NPT threads and/or the fire sprinklers themselves. Use the manufacturer approved installation wrench and tighten to a maximum torque of 14 ft-lb (19 N-m). Refer to the data sheet for additional installation and storage information.
Available finishes include Chrome, White, and Grey. Temperature options include 165F (68C) and 205F (97C).

The listed VK650 accessories include the approved Viking™ Institutional Wrench (PN. 22847MB) and the approved Viking™ Institutional 3 in. (PN. 23196-) or 4 in. (PN. 23197-) Escutcheon(s). Commonly purchased with fire sprinkler head cabinets and sprinkler shut off tools.
