Overview

The Viking Models A-2, A-2X, B-2, C-2, and D-2 are non-automatic, open-type, directional discharge solid cone spray nozzles designed for use in medium- and high-velocity water spray systems. These nozzles are used for fire protection, cooling, and exposure control applications in industrial settings such as refineries, power plants, chemical facilities, and storage areas.

Construction

Each nozzle features a two-piece cast bronze construction consisting of a main body and a threaded brass insert. The insert defines the spray angle, while the body ensures uniform water distribution. During operation, the nozzle produces a solid, cone-shaped spray pattern optimized for efficient surface cooling and fire control.

Key Features

  • Open, non-automatic design for fixed water-spray systems (deluge or exposure protection).
  • Available spray angles: 30°, 60°, 90°, 120°, and 140°.
  • Nominal inlet connection: 1/2” NPT male thread.
  • Materials: Brass Body (UNS C84400) and Brass Insert (UNS C36000).
  • Optional red polyethylene dust plugs prevent debris ingress and release when the system is pressurized.
  • Available finishes: Brass or Electroless Nickel.
  • Suitable for use in high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Typical Applications

  • Fire protection for tanks, transformers, conveyors, and process equipment
  • Cooling of exposed surfaces and structural components
  • Deluge and exposure protection systems in industrial fire suppression networks

Operating Parameters

  • Inlet orientation: 90° to outlet
  • Nominal K-Factors: Refer to approval charts
  • Dust plug temperature rating: 220 °F (104 °C)
  • Spray distribution: Solid cone, uniform pattern

Installation and Maintenance

Install in accordance with the latest editions of NFPA, FM Global, LPCB, and VdS standards, as well as applicable codes and regulations. Perform inspections and maintenance per NFPA 25. Replace any nozzle that is damaged, painted, or shows signs of corrosion to maintain system performance.
