The 22087M/W Dry Sprinkler Insulating Boot Assembly is designed for use with most Viking dry sprinklers, excluding dry concealed models, to provide a seal around the clearance space between the sprinkler barrel and the ceiling, wall, or deck surface. When installed correctly, it helps limit air movement through the sprinkler opening, which can influence condensation control in temperature-differentiated environments such as freezers or cold storage areas. This model is intended for installation on smooth, flat, and clean surfaces and must be installed in accordance with applicable NFPA standards and sprinkler technical data requirements.
This assembly features a rubber foam seal manufactured to ASTM D1056 specifications, available in EPDM-butyl-PE foam rubber (2A0/1 4015-EL), neoprene/EPDM/SBR (2A1), or neoprene/EPDM (2C1). The seal material is formulated to resist dripping when exposed to open flame. The boot includes a two-piece over-seal ring and under-seal ring made from cold-rolled steel with a clear chromate over zinc plating. Four stainless steel #10 screws secure the assembly in place. The overall outside diameter is 6 inches (152 mm), with a depth of 1 inch (25 mm), and it is designed to fit sprinkler barrels with an outside diameter of 1-5/16 inches (33 mm).
The 22087M/W Dry Sprinkler Insulating Boot Assembly is compatible with the following Viking dry sprinkler models: VK160, VK184, VK150, VK154, VK158, VK152, VK156, VK162, VK166, VK163, VK164, VK250, VK252, VK254, VK153, VK157, VK161, VK168, VK169, VK172, VK176, VK180, VK174, VK178, VK182, VK173, VK177, VK181, VK275, VK277, VK279, VK282, VK286, VK290, VK284, VK288, VK292, VK186, VK188, and VK482. Minimum barrel length and clearance opening dimensions must be observed as specified in the applicable technical data documentation.
Installation requires preparing the sprinkler opening per the relevant sprinkler model’s instructions, installing the sprinkler into malleable iron or cast iron threaded tee fittings meeting ANSI B16.3 Class 150 or ANSI B16.4 Class 125 standards, cleaning the contact surfaces, sliding the boot over the barrel to rest against the mounting surface, and securing it using the provided screws. For metallic installation surfaces, a #29 drill bit is required to create pilot holes. During system maintenance or sprinkler replacement, the insulating boot assembly should be reinstalled or replaced as outlined in applicable inspection and service procedures.
