Solo 460 Cordless Heat Detector Head
Test heat detectors in hard-to-reach areas with the Solo 460, a cordless heat-discharging head designed for use with Solo's rechargeable NiMH battery batons and universal fast charger (not included). When paired with Solo-brand extension poles (sold separately), this tool can test rate-of-rise, fixed-temperature, and combination heat detectors with activation temperatures as high as 194F (90C).
This heat detector accessory is designed to test heat detectors of almost any size. With a pivoting handle, little weight (2.4 pounds per head and battery), and a 4 in. diameter opening, this tool is easy to use and eliminates the need for ladders or scaffolding.
Is this a standalone tool?
No. The Solo 460 requires a Solo-brand extension pole and Solo-brand battery batons. Kits containing two batteries and a universal fast charger are available. Depending on the attachments used, this tool can grasp detectors at distances of 14 to 30 feet. Available extension poles include:
- Solo 100 14-Foot Telescopic Access Pole
- Solo 101 Extender for Telescopic Access Poles
- Solo 108 7.2-Foot Telescopic Access Pole
These telescopic, no-climb extension poles provide convenience and safety, eliminating the need for ladders or climbing equipment.
How does this cordless heat detector head work?
Solo 460 heats detectors with Cross Air Technology. The head creates a low-energy beam of heated air that blows horizontally, allowing it to quickly enter openings in the sensor. Cross Air Technology is designed to reduce the time spent testing and extend battery life all while minimizing potential damage to the detector.
This detector activates when an object enters the head, breaking an invisible infrared (IR) beam. Electronics inside the cup also promote safer and faster inspections by:
- Keeping heat and airflow steady
- Putting the head in standby mode after 120 seconds of continuous use
- Turning the head off after five minutes in standby
How do I use the Solo 460?
The Solo 460 slides into the end of a Solo 100, Solo 101, or Solo 108 extension pole. To attach it, follow these steps:
- Insert a charged battery baton (not included) into the end of the pole.
- Slide the pole on the Solo 460's handle into the extension pole. Make sure that the button springs up from the locking hole.
- Turn on the tester by pressing the red switch. The LED will turn green (on) and begin slowly flashing (standby mode)
To test a heat detector:
- Use the extension pole to guide the Solo 460 to the detector.
- Place the detector inside the dispenser's see-through cup.
- The tool will begin releasing heat when the IR beam in the cup breaks. The LED will flash quickly.
- When the detector activates, pull the Solo 460 away. An internal blower will cool the cup.
- Switch off the tester to preserve battery life. Remove the battery when testing concludes.
Remember to:
- Stand with one foot slightly in front of the other to reduce strain and improve balance.
- Share the load with others and take regular breaks.
- Occasionally switch the position of the pole, holding it either on the right-hand or the left-hand side of the body.
- Hold the pole perpendicular to the ground and stand directly under the top of the pole.
- If this product must be held at an angle, stand no more than 5 feet away from a point directly beneath the detector.
