We highly recommend purchasing the add-on parts necessary for a fully functioning and compliant FDC. Choose your plate, and two Plug and Chains or Breakable Caps from the options section on this page to help ensure your building’s safety and code compliance. The ID plates help the fire department identify the location and type of your FDC. The choice between plug and chain systems and breakable caps for FDC protection depends on factors such as local fire codes, system design, and personal preference. Both options offer protection against debris and maintain the cleanliness of the FDCs. Plug and chain systems provide a reusable and visible covering, while breakable caps offer a quick and straightforward way to access the FDCs during emergencies.
What is a Fire Department Connection (FDC)?
FDC stands for Fire Department Connection. An FDC, or, when it has two outlets, a Siamese Connection, or a fire department Siamese connection, is a crucial component of a building's fire protection system. It serves as a dedicated connection point that allows firefighters to easily connect their hoses to the building's fire sprinkler or standpipe system. The FDC enables the fire department to supply additional water or pressure to enhance the effectiveness of fire suppression efforts. It acts as a vital link between the fire department's equipment and the building's fire protection infrastructure, enabling a rapid and coordinated response in the event of a fire emergency.
What is a Siamese Connection?
A Siamese connection, also known as a Siamese fire hose connection or Siamese FDC, is a type of fire department connection (FDC) used in fire protection systems. It is called "Siamese" due to its resemblance to the letter "Y" in shape. The Siamese connection is typically found on the exterior of a building and is used to consolidate multiple fire department hoses into a single supply line. The Siamese connection features two or more inlets that can be connected to fire department hoses, allowing firefighters to supply water from separate sources. These sources can include fire engines, hydrants, or other water supplies. The connection then merges the water streams into a single outlet, which is connected to the building's fire protection system, such as fire sprinklers or standpipes.
