This Model XG Head Guard is for the new XT1 frames featuring a square frame. For old XT1 sprinklers with the rounded frame, please see part number 22931.
Only Viking's Model XG Fire Sprinkler Head Guard can safely protect Model XT1 fire sprinklers against mechanical damage. These steel-wire sprinkler cages fit 1/2 in. and 3/4 in. NPT XT1 fire sprinklers both upright and pendent.
At 2 15/16 in. wide and 2 3/16 in. tall, Viking's Model XG Sprinkler Guard protects sprinklers while adding less than an inch to overall height. When coupled with the Viking XWU water shield, this head guard can protect intermediate rack-storage models against unwanted spray from nearby sprinklers.
Which sprinklers need a Viking Model XG head guard?

However, the Viking Model XG is the only sprinkler cage that doesn't interfere with the activation of XT1 headsNearly all other head guards canpinch the hinged plug of an XT1 fire sprinkler, causing the head to malfunction.

How is the Model XG head guard installed?
Model XG guards require two tools to install:
- Viking's XT1 Sprinkler Guard Wrench
- A T15 Torx screwdriver
Because these guards fit snugly around XT1 fire sprinkler heads, installation requires special care:
- First, loosen the Torx screw on the guard.
- Open the hinged door.
- Slide the sprinkler into the guardat an appropriate angle. Pendent heads insert upright. Upright heads should be inserted at roughly a 30-degree angle.
- Rotate the sprinkler 90 degrees or until the plug's hinge isn't blocked.
- Close the guard and tighten the Torx screw.
